This challenging condominium conversion project in the Lakeview
neighborhood transformed a former brick and concrete meat plant
with an extensive refrigeration system into a complex of elegant
loft style homes.
Several construction phases were required to achieve success
with this intricate project. Partial selective demolition of the
existing building and restoration of the remainder were the most
ambitious aspects of the construction. The basement was also excavated
and converted into a parking garage and a striking plaza style
courtyard was created as an outdoor common area. Each of the development’s
15 residential units features its own unique floor plan and classic
loft details such as hardwood flooring, exposed brick, and high
ceilings.
George Court was successfully completed in May of 1998. By using
concrete cast in place mixed with steel frame and masonry construction,
the architect and engineers were able to integrate an old and
new building into one appealing architectural landmark.
